Unlike conventional plaster
work where plaster is made from a mold, Gebs is done on
site, by applying a very slow-setting plaster in layers several
centimeters thick , over the surface to be decorated, then axes
of symmetry and measuring points are drawn, before a stencil
is used to reproduce the motif.

The difference is very striking;
the softness and flexuous grace of the hand-chiseled patterns
being in strong contrast to the hard uniformity of the mold method.
